$10,000 Prize For Logo Representing All Crypto-Currencies

Alternative crypto-currency (altcoin) businesses Cryptsy And Vogogo have come to together to create a competition. With a $10,000 prize, the hope is to incentivise the creation of a logo that can represent crypto-currency as a whole.

Fiat and crypto-currency payment solution provider, Vogogo, created the platform hosting the competition. Brand Me Crypto allows people to enter their own logo design into the competition or vote for their favorite submission. The team behind the platform wanted to make a place where people could “come together, be inspired and submit ideas for an iconic brand to represent what has the potential to be the very future of currency.” – Vogogo

The competition, which is sponsored by Vogogo and crypto-currency exchange, Cryptsy, started in early November.  Currently voting is at the semi-final stage, which will end March 10, 2015. The top 10 logos, with the most community votes, will progress and then be reviewed by a panel of judges, who will narrow them down to just 4 logos. The 4 finalists will be voted on by the community once more, and the logo with the most amount of votes by March 31, 2015 will be declared the winner of the competition. The winner of the competition will receive $10,000 in crypto-currency, or cash, and will be named in the open creative licensing rights.

“The vast majority of the different coins have their own individual brand but as you’ll understand, fitting 650 logos onto one piece of marketing collateral doesn’t leave room for much else.”
— – Vogogo’s PR Josh Stanbury

Since the creation of the original crypto-currency Bitcoin, almost 6 years ago, the number of digital currencies has exploded. As Vogogo and Cryptsy deal with numerous crypto-currencies, both companies needed a way to represent crypto-currency as a whole.

“The problem we continually face is how does one visually show or identify with cryptocurrency?”
— – Stanbury

The two companies hope this competition can provide a solution to that problem. They want the winning logo to be adopted by the crypto-currency industry and cement the identity of a unified crypto-currency brand.

“As cryptocurrency is a global product. A global product not owned by any one particular governance or business or individual. Therefore no business or individual or governance could own it to brand it. The overarching brand has therefore been neglected.” – Vogogo

While crypto-currency’s branding problem, highlighted by Vogogo in a recent blog post, is at least in part caused by the same reasons people value crypto-currency. Brand Me Crypto and the companies behind it, did not want to want diverge from the crypto-currency’s spirit. When designing the competition they wanted to make sure it was chosen in a global, open source, and decentralized process. A competition open to anyone around the world to join, community decided, where the winning logo will be free for anyone to use.
