Bitcoin Checkout Nominated for Retail App Of The Year

Contactless Intelligence recently announced Bitpays mobile point-of-sale app as a finalist for the 2015 Contactless & Mobile Awards, sponsored by Visa.

Selection 0092011 marked the first year of the Contactless & Mobile Awards. It has since grown to be a celebration of innovation encompassing a variety of categories. This year is particularly exciting for the digital currency community thanks to Bitpay and their recently released point-of-sale app, Bitcoin Checkout.

“Bitcoin Checkout makes it possible for Bitcoin payments to be integrated and used by countless retailers looking to benefit from an extra revenue stream free from the risk of chargebacks and fraud.” – Wouter Vonk, European Marketing Manager for Bitpay.

The app was released just last November, making this nomination particularly remarkable. It is both flexible and functional in its approach to transforming tablets and smartphones into mobile point-of-sale systems. “We’ve had great feedback from our customers using Bitcoin Checkout,” says Vonk.

“To be nominated for this award alongside some tough competition really is a reflection of where we’re taking Bitcoin both this year and in the not-so-distant future.”

Bitcoin Checkout works as a standalone unit or can sync with compatible systems, and provides transaction ID matching. It supports 40 languages and displays prices  in 150 different currencies, which is good news for international merchants. Those in the service industry looking to utilize the application also have many things to look forward to, such as multi-employee checkout, quick on-screen tipping, and easy tip reporting.

The biggest and possibly most attractive feature of Bitcoin Checkout is the ability to pay using Near Field Communication, or NFC. This technology enables smartphones and other devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity.

“We want to show the world that this combination of NFC and Bitcoin technology really is the most secure, frictionless solution out there,”

Despite the recent announcement that WordPress is removing Bitcoin as a payment option, this nomination is another good sign for fans of Bitpay and Bitcoin alike. The company aims to make Bitcoin payments easier and more accessible – something that is especially important with face-to-face transactions.

"We’re incredibly keen to go the extra mile and win the retail award outright.”

The important thing to notice is that the Contactless & Mobile awards has a corporate sponsor– Visa. There are plenty of other big names attending the event as well, which will certainly bring more attention to the Bitcoin presence in the room. It will be good attention for the cryptocurrency world as a whole, for every step taken towards more simple payment is a good one.
