Spells of Genesis Raises Over 240 Bitcoin in 2 Hours

The BitCrystals Token Sale is a crowdfund to support the development of Spells of Genesis (SoG). It raised 240 BTC just after 2 hours from its launch at 1PM GMT on August 4. At the time of writing the total amount raised is just shy of 630 BTC, showing some great momentum for the sale less than 72 hours after its start.

This is a remarkable result considering the EverdreamSoft team experienced a rocky start to the sale, suffering from Domain Name System (DNS) issues right at the beginning of the sale.

BraveNewCoin reached out to the team to find out more. It appears that the bitcrystals.com domain was only available in the United States for the first hour because of an emergency DNS change required for the site to go live. These changes can take as little as an hour, but also several and up to 48 hours or more for some servers in extreme cases.

DNS is the service which translates a domain name typed into a browser into an IP address, and it tells the browser which server it needs to connect to to load the site requested. It’s handy because if we had to remember the IP address of every website we visit, it would make surfing the internet much harder.

When a website’s address is entered into a browser, the computer requests the IP address of the server hosting the site from an Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) DNS records. To speed up the loading of websites, each ISP caches a copy of DNS records for a period of time, sometimes up to 48 hours. This speeds up web surfing quite a bit by, but the downside is that ISPs only update their records periodically.

Although some DNS servers update every 15 minutes the time between updates on a global scale is not standardized, so the delay can range from a few hours to several days.

And this is exactly the issue that bitcrystals.com experienced during launch. The DNS propagation delay in countries including the UK, Mexico and Japan was of several hours, but most countries were able to access the website within the first two hours.

The issues didn’t deter supporters who found alternative ways to access the website through other regions of the world.

Shaban Shaame EverdreamSoft CEO and Founder explained that when users buy BitCrystals they get rewarded with the game’s currency, and fund its development. BitCrystals can then be used to purchase new card decks and game items, or can be traded online. Users own their assets for the first time and they are free to exchange them with each other or sell them at will. The token sale will end 30 days  after the start, or when all the BitCrystals are sold, whichever occurs first. Unsold BitCrystals will be sent to a provably unspendable wallet address, or “burned", removing them from circulation.

EverdreamSoft is offering an extra guarantee to their contributors. All the funds raised will be held in a multisig wallet by third parties, until the game is delivered as planned. The roadmap to completion contains four milestones, each one of which will grant EverdreamSoft receipt of 25% of the total funds raised. The key officers in control of releasing the funds are:

• Jeremy Johnson, a big believer in blockchain technologies and the founder and lead developer of CoinDaddy.io. The frenzy that the sale created is due in part to the rewards on offer. People who pledge specific amounts of BTC gain access to exclusive Spells of Genesis stores, and to limited edition trading cards the SATOSHICARD and the new GENESISCARD.

The GENESISCARD will only be created and distributed to all eligible contributors after the token sale. Depending on the number of participants and their eligibility the number of cards created could make it another very rare item in the SoG ecosystem. The SATOSHICARD was previously only available via flash sales, it will now be rewarded on a first come, first served basis to eligible sale contributors.

It’s interesting to see how much attention Swiss-based EverdreamSoft is generating with one game title on their records, Moonga, and a new game at the horizon.
