The price of BitCrystals (BCY) reached its highest market value since EverdreamSoft first launched a token sale last summer. BCY [nudged $0.38 cents] yesterday, or 0.00061915 bitcoin, its highest valuation to date. The currency start August at around 8 cents, posting a four fold increase for the month. The market capitalization of BitCrystals is about US $11 million, or roughly 17,781 BTC.
While it’s difficult to determine the cause of the recent climb, two potential reasons for this positive ascension can be pointed to. First, Spells of Genesis (SoG) is nearing its full launch, with a soft launch later this month, according to staff at EverdreamSoft.
SoG is an interesting use of blockchain technology as it differs from the usual fintech or payment applications. It’s a mobile game that combines aspects of Trading Card games with Arcade games. Players build the strongest decks, and put them to the test against various opponents.
BitCrystals are digital assets used in SoG and operate as both the game’s fuel and the premium in-game currency. As digital assets, they can be traded freely on the blockchain, or used to buy blockchain-based trading cards playable within the worlds of SoG and Moonga.
A crowdsale of the BCY token was launched last summer, where 70 percent of the 100 million total tokens were made available for purchase. The remaining 30 percent was kept by EverdreamSoft for promotional purposes and development.
The new soft launch date was a small postponement from the originally-slated August release. Nevertheless, the delay did nothing to slow trading activity, which saw upwards of 190 BTC in daily volume at times in August.
A second factor which may have driven activity up is BCY’s integration into Zaif in early August. Zaif is a Japanese cryptographic currency exchange, which registered a record volume of trading in a 24-hour period in April, 33,000 BTC, worth roughly ¥1.5 billion (US$14.7m).
EverdreamSoft’s initial hit, Moonga, was popular in Japan. Launched in the summer of 2010, it became the top-grossing card game in Japan, along with five other countries. SoG, the game’s sequel, may also win some success in Japan and elsewhere.
The game will eventually be available on iOS, Android and WebGL (online). Beta testing has generated positive traction in the gaming community already, with a consistent return of players on a daily basis, according to EverdreamSoft’s marketing director Markéta Korteova.
The Satoshi card, a blockchain-based asset of which only 200 digital copies are now publicly available, recently sold for US$3,700 (6.65 BTC), highlighting the growing popularity of the game and it’s in-game items.
