Waves Association to distribute 1 Million WAVES in grants to boost ecosystem development

Waves Association, a non-profit organization that exists to foster the development of next-generation technologies on the Waves protocol has launched a new grant program with a budget allocation of 1 million WAVES tokens. The tokens are valued at more than $2.5 million at the time of writing. The grant program is intended to grow the Waves ecosystem, improve blockchain interoperability, and boost DeFi applications.

In the first decade of blockchain, many competing chains with unique features and capabilities have launched to meet a variety of use-cases. This is typical of what happens in the early stages of any new technology industry, however, the result is a confusing and fragmented sector.

Recognizing the need for interoperability between disparate blockchains and Dapps, the Waves Association has committed to awarding grants of up to 100,000 WAVES from a total pool of 1,000,000 WAVES. The grants will be allocated to developers and teams who propose the best solutions.

Sasha Ivanov, president of the Waves Association, says the mission of the Waves Association is to support the creation of next-generation technologies to build trustless digital ecosystems in decentralized collaborative environments and organizations. “The Waves Association is committed to supporting the development of a connected blockchain ecosystem,” said Ivanov. “We believe DeFi as a sector would greatly benefit from a more interoperable infrastructure.”

The Waves Association will make available three types of grants: open grants, which represent any initiatives from the community, grants distributed through WA hackathons, and Waves specific grants that build upon inter-chain communication.

To begin the grants program, the Waves Association will announce specific foundational assignments, for which developer teams will be able to apply. Grants of up to 100,000 WAVES will be made available to the teams that are best resourced to deliver on the brief.

The DAO

The Waves Association is launching the WavesDAO, built on the Waves protocol. All application appraisals and grants issuance are to be stipulated by the grant policy and fully automated by a Dapp available to all applicants.
