Gold Price Forecast Faces December Fed Test as $3,900 Support Comes Into View

As gold prices retreat from $4,000, the safety index is coming.

The December Fed decision could be the turning point for bullion to rally or continue its drop at the end of the year, with sellers pushing toward $3,900 support.

Gold Price Analysis Shows Sellers Still Control the Trend

Gold is struggling to be bullish in November trading below a key area near the $4,000 mark. Investing.com’s November 3 chart showed gold futures at $3,946.85, down $22.75, or 0.57%. Meanwhile, the TradingView chart shows spot gold trading at $3,935.13 on the current four-hour candle, down 0.24%. These are independent instruments, and their prices ought not to be compared.

The sales pressure then drove prices back to $3,900. The liquidity heatmap shows a cluster of potential resistance at around 4,200-4,600 and a large liquidity zone around 3,800-3,900. These zones are used to show zones that traders can watch for, not certain turning points.

In the near term, 3,900–3,880 is the key support area. A break below will open $3,800 and possibly the $3,700s. But gold has to clear 3,975-4,000 before bulls can put up a fight at $4,044 and begin the recovery. Any move above these areas would be a positive development technically, but the overall downtrend would need to be confirmed.

December Fed Decision Could Determine Gold’s Direction

The Fed kept interest rates steady at 3.75%–4.00% on Oct. 28, with two members wanting to raise rates by a quarter point. The Fed also indicated that inflation continues to be high. The disagreement puts investors on edge about the possibility of a further contraction by policymakers at the Dec. 8-9 meeting. Read the official Fed statement and 2026 meeting calendar.

A rate increase or hawkish sentiment may extend the downward trend for gold as it helps to lift Treasury yields and the US dollar. The larger the crop, the greater the opportunity cost of carrying non-yielding bullion.

But if the inflation report is less severe and the employment report comes in light, or the Fed outlook is less hawkish, then rate expectations will be lowered, bringing gold back. Investors will need to monitor upcoming U.S. inflation and jobs data, as well as the dollar and real yields, rather than rely on the Fed’s decision to move prices.

Can Gold Rally in November and December?

There is still a chance that it will be able to make a decent rally, but the charts do not confirm one just yet. Gold must drink this resistance at 3,880–3,900; if it can cut through, it will recover $4,000 and break through on and off the resistance levels. In November, if those conditions persist and yields continue to drop, MBLIO investment demand could increase; a $4,044 or higher resistance may emerge. Lack of support to be found would instead continue the bear case for December.

Central-bank demand could be a source of demand in the longer term, and geopolitical risks could drive safe-haven buying. However, neither of these is a sure sign of recovery. Rather than just buying when gold has dropped significantly, investors should think about entering gradually, setting positions, and predetermined exit points.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What’s the important price level for gold?

The immediate support zone is 3,900–3,880. If it falls below and continues to do so, $3,800 will be left vulnerable.

2. Will $4,000 be the minimum price for gold by November?

Yes, if the buyer supports and recovers $4,000. The recovery must be confirmed above $4,044 to support a stronger recovery.

3. What is the likely impact of the Fed on gold in December?

Hawkish policy sentiment and higher rates could weigh on gold, while dovish policy sentiment and lower yields could work in favor of gold.

4. Should you invest in gold now?

It is dependent on risk-taking capability and investment time horizon. It is better to be prudent rather than assuming a bottom, as it is currently in a downtrend.
