Satoshi Nakamoto – What’s In a Name?

Whether the name represents a 37 year old man living in Japan, or a group of people scattered about the world. Many wonder who they, he or she may be. The name Satoshi Nakamoto is under constant scrutiny, it’s in our nature as human beings to question. As the name is more than likely a guise, chosen by one or many, it is worth looking into where this name came from, and what it means?

Satoshi- A name representing ‘wise’

An unusual male name that sits outside of the top 1000 baby names. Japanese in heritage, it has many definitions that allude to change. It represents ‘born from the ashes like a phoenix’ or ‘clear thought’, ‘witty’ or ‘wise’. Both meanings ring closely to bitcoin and its original disruptive untainted thought

According to babycentre.com 19 babies were names Satoshi inn 2000, dropping to only 2 in the year 2012. However, this figure could possibly jump in 2014. Rex C. Ballester was gifted with a son on the 19th March 2014. He named his son Satoshi, and with 96 likes, it seems to have grabbed some traction.

Nakamoto- A name representing ‘(one who lives) in the middle’

Found mostly in the Ryukyu Islands, an island chain south west of Japan including the Anami, Okinawa, Sakishima Islands. This region, formerly know as the Ryukyu Kingdom was  Independent from Japan during the 15th to 19th Centuries, it played a vital role in the maritime trade networks of the region.

Having paid tribute to China over hundreds of years, the Ryukyuan Kingdom had certain trade rights reserved by China, and they were supported with technological growth and diplomatic relations. Not too dissimilar to the cryptocurrency environment today.

Satoshi Nakamoto loosely translates to “wise one who lives in the middle”. Perhaps a fitting moniker when considering the achievements of the holder. The name embodies many more characteristics since the mining of the first Bitcoin on January 3rd 2009. It is the base for many communities, personalities, and has inspired over a million people around the world to take control of their lives, starting with currency. Moving into the world of 2.0, the true possibilities will be seen, going beyond original expectation. To the moon! One might say.
