Cubits Partners With Wikando To Bring Bitcoin To Non-Profits

Bitcoin brokerage and payment processor Cubits has partnered with “fundraising-as-a-service” startup Wikando, which provides donation solutions for non-profits.

Wikando works with numerous charities through the website, FundraisingBox.com, and provides a ready made solution for donation payments, as well as a forum for charities. Now bitcoin will be offered as one of the donation options. Cubits offers the service for free, meaning charities using the service will get their full share of the donations. “Accepting Bitcoin was the obvious choice, and Cubits helped us make this choice a reality.” stated Wikando CTO Peter Kral.

According to Wikando’s website, the business has been pioneering the fundraising-as-a-service model since its founding in 2008. The service is available to charities worldwide, and has signed on Oxfam International, The Salvation Army, Amnesty International and Doctors Without Borders as clients.

“We are always looking for ways to expedite the donation process, whether it’s making it faster, cheaper, more secure, or more readily accessible to anyone, anywhere.”

London-based Cubits exited beta earlier this year, and is focused on making bitcoin accessible in Europe, steadily signing up merchants in the region. The startup said that partnering with Wikando helps achieve their goal of bringing bitcoin’s benefits to the non-profit sector.

“We’re extremely proud to be a part of Wikando’s fundraising-as-a-service platform, because for us, Bitcoin isn’t only about doing business well, but doing the world good.”

Bitcoin and charity

Charities have long been one of the most fervent adopters of bitcoin. The international and cheap payment system, and perhaps the free publicity, have caught the eyes’ of many non-profits.

Payment processor BitPay has led the pack when it comes to bitcoin and charities. They have helped the American Red Cross, Save The Children Now, ChildFund International, and United Way. The payment processor also signed up Nation Builder, who provides a ready-made donation solution for small charities and communities, enabling thousands of charities to accept bitcoin.

Charities are attracted to Bitpay because the company offers non-profits the ability to receive 100 percent of the donations. “Bitcoin is drastically reducing the costs of receiving donations, and it is providing growing donor bases a secure and convenient way to support good causes,” reads Bitpay’s website.

“The power of charity is being matched by a payment network originally built for person-to-person transactions.”

Perhaps one of the shining examples of bitcoin charity, showcasing the digital currencies ability to empower the less fortunate, was the Women’s Annex Foundation (WAF), a vlogging and blogging platform for young women in developing countries. The organization provided a way for women to gain a form of income, and thus independence, through writing and making videos.

Having recently changed their name to Digital Citizen Fund, to more clearly reflect a new mission in providing Digital Literacy, the charity operates in developing countries, particularly Afghanistan and Mexico. The Foundation facilitates the connection between companies and freelancers to get paid in Bitcoins.
